Frequently Asked Questions

What does a hedge fund attorney do?

A hedge fund attorney has many jobs, but his or her primary duty is to understand the hedge fund investing strategies of his or her employer. A hedge fund is an investment type in which multiple investors buy into an entire package of investments. The fund attempts to leverage the risk by short selling and using derivative methods.

How does a hedge fund differ from a mutual fund?

Hedge funds seek absolute returns. Conversely, mutual funds seek relative returns on the investment made in securities. Hedge funds are aggressively managed, where advanced investment and risk management techniques are used to reap good returns, which is not in the case of mutual funds.

How much of the profits do hedge fund managers make?

Under this scenario, the hedge fund manager earns 2% of the assets in the portfolio as a management fee, plus 20% of the fund's profits as a performance fee. For example, if a hedge fund has $100 million in assets and had earned 10% in a given year, the hedge fund manager would earn $4 million.

What are the risks of hedge funds?

Hedge Fund Risks. Although hedge funds are still prohibited from fraud, this lack of oversight creates additional risk. Besides, hedge fund investors are also part owners of the LLC. This means they could lose their investment if the hedge fund goes bankrupt as a business, even if the investments do OK.
