10 Basic Rules for Dealing with InLaws FamilyEducation

Just Now

1. Work With Your Spouse. This is the key rule, numero uno, the whole enchilada. As my wonderful husband reminded me last night, dealing effectively with in-laws all starts with first working conflicts through with your spouse.
2. Set Boundaries and Limits. No candy before mealtime for the kids? No loans for in-laws? With your spouse, decide what's important and what's not. For example, we let our kids eat anything they want anytime.
3. Enforce the Boundaries and Limits. Without being as inflexible as a teenager, stick to your guns. For example, if you don't want drop-in company, tell your in-laws that you'd prefer that they call before they show up at your doorstep.
4. Communicate Directly. Whenever possible, avoid communicating through a third party. Don't ask your spouse to talk to his sister about something she did that hurt your feelings.
5. Know Yourself. Shakespeare said it a zillion years ago, and the advice still holds today: Don't try to remake yourself into the person your in-laws want.
6. Get With the Program. Not every father-in-law lives to snake out your kitchen sink; not every mother-in-law dreams of baking cookies with her grandchildren.
7. Learn to Cool Off. I tend to jump in where angels fear to tread. It's always headfirst, too. Fortunately, my husband is far more levelheaded. Many times, the best thing to do is nothing.
8. Be Mature. Your parents have to love you; it's in the contract. But your in-laws don't. Accept the fact that your in-laws aren't your parents and won't follow the same rules.
9. Be Kind. Even if you have to grit your teeth, try to say something nice. And if you really can't say anything nice, shut up and smile.
10. Keep Your Sense of Humor. A very dear friend tells this story: "When I was pregnant with my first child, my father-in-law bought me a special gift: My very own funeral plot.

Price fixing ACCC

21.086.417Just Now

1. Price fixing occurs when competitors agree on pricing rather than competing against each other. In relation to price fixing, the Competition and Consumer Act refers to the ‘fixing, controlling or maintaining’ of prices. A price fixing cartel occurs when competitors make written, informal or verbal agreements or understandings on: 1. prices for selling or buying goods or services 2. minimum prices 3. a formula for pricing or discounting goods and services 4. rebates, allowances or credit terms. Price fixing agreements do not have to be formal; they can be a 'wink and a nod', made over a drink in the local pub, at an association meeting or at a social occasion. The important point is not how the agreement or understanding was made or even how effective it is, but that competitors are working out their prices collectively and not individually. Sometimes competing businesses will sell goods or services at the same or similar price levels so that the price fluctuations of one are matched...

The great Irish satirist Jonathan Swift likened laws to cobwebs, because they seemed to stretch in every direction to catch innocent flies while utterly failing to stop wasps and other creatures responsible for much greater crimes against human comfort. Many people no doubt find this comparison at least as true today as it was in Swift’s time. After all, in order to be law-abiding innkeepers (or just plain citizens), we must negotiate a vast web of constitutional, federal, regulatory, and state and local law; criminal, civil, and common law; substantive and procedural law; public and private law; and business law, which includes contract, product-liability, patent, consumer-protection, environmental, employment and labor, insurance, cyber, agency, and a host of other forms of law.
