Fitts’s Law is about how long it takes to move your hand to an object. This Law states exactly how the time it takes is a function of the combination distance to the object and its size. For example, a small object 1 feet meter from your hand takes more time to grasp than a large object; that is, size plays a role.

You should use this instantiation of Fitts’ Law: T = C * log2(D/S 0.5) where C = 100ms, each key is 0.3″x0.3″, rows and columns are 0.44″ apart (center to center), and users wait 200ms between keys. NOTE: Even though the keys are obviously spaced differently vertically and horizontally, use the above assumption to simplify your calculation.

Fitts's law (often cited as Fitt's law) is a predictive model of human movement primarily used in human–computer interaction and ergonomics. This scientific law predicts that the time required to rapidly move to a target area is a function of the ratio between the distance to the target and the width of the target.

You can use Fitt’s to determine the upper bound of relative improvement of different places for a control (the percent of time Location 1 takes to move to versus Location 2). The ratio of MTs of two locations is maximized when a is zero. In that case, b cancels out, and the ratio of MTs is: R extreme = Log (2 A 1 / W) / Log (2 A 2 / W)

Fitts's Law First of all it is not Fitt’s Law. The name of the famous researcher is Paul Fitts, so one should be careful on spelling. Fitts's Law is basically an empirical model explaining speed-accuracy tradeoff characteristics of human muscle movement with some analogy to Shannon’s channel capacity theorem.
Fitts’ law states that the amount of time required for a person to move a pointer (e.g., mouse cursor) to a target area is a function of the distance to the target divided by the size of the target. Thus, the longer the distance and the smaller the target’s size, the longer it takes.
Other researchers repeated similar experiments and found that Fitts’ Law holds for discrete tasks as well. Fitts' experiment and the Fitts’ Law equation highlight the points that are important in pointing tasks such as pointing speed, target distance, target size and accuracy.
