The Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) Pay Schedule organizes federal law enforcement salaries to reflect the standard wages for law enforcement officers in the private sector. In addition to the LEO Pay Schedule, federal law enforcement officers may receive locality pay, based on the location of their post or assignment, as well as availability pay.
General Schedule (GS) – The GS pay scale is the most frequently used pay scale for federal employees and consists of 15 pay grades with 10 pay steps within each grade. In general, federal agencies adhere to the following range: Base salaries often represent just a portion of a federal law enforcement officer’s salary.
The FWS payscale is by blue-collar and hourly Federal employees. Pay ranges from below $8.00 per hour to $50.00 per hour and higher for supervisory positions. The LEO payscale is used by law enforcement officers employed by any of the 130 different Federal agencies that hire law enforcement.
