5 Tips For Small Law Firms to Thrive in the Online Era Clio

Estimated Reading Time: 5 mins
1. Make sure clients are comparing apples to apples. The marketing departments for online providers like to show the lowest price possible, often for the barest of services, then they upsell customers on additional services, many of which would be included in an attorney’s basic fee.
2. Stress confidentiality. Confidentiality is one of the cornerstones of the attorney-client relationship, and lawyers have ethical and legal obligations to protect their client’s data.
3. Give your clients online convenience. As a small firm lawyer, you can’t expect to compete with LegalZoom or RocketLawyer if you make your clients drive hours to your office for each meeting.
4. Provide personal value-add services. An online legal service isn’t going to be able to provide the same level of hands-on service as a personal attorney.
5. Be forthright. At times, a client may not need your services. For example, when a client needs a basic incorporation or DBA filing, they might be better off opting with an online legal service (or just filing directly with the state).

Disrupting the Law Firm Model » Rimon Law

1. The legal profession has always been on based on tradition, precedent, and caution. However, the COVID pandemic has thrown into stark relief the dangers for law firms of looking too exclusively to the past to guide the future. Our era has highlighted the inefficiencies of failing to leverage modern technology, leaning too heavily on entrenched and ever-expanding bureaucracies, maintaining expensive commercial leases, and other long-standing firm practices. Firms too often approach their clients’ 21st century needs – to have seamless, cross-border legal representation – with 20th century tools. At Rimon, we believe that there is a more modern, entrepreneurial-minded path to delivering the valuable legal advice that clients need. Leveraging a distributed model and the technological innovations that have already revolutionized many industries, our partners seamlessly collaborate across jurisdictions and time zones while enjoying an empowered, flexible way of practicing law. It’s all linked: a close look at the EC’s proposed Digital

21.086.4176 hours ago

1. What is it? The current European legal framework for digital services is built around the e-Commerce Directive, adopted in 2000, that sets out principles allowing cross-border provision of services and minimum standards of liability for online intermediaries across the EU. However, over the years, the fragmented implementation of the Directive across member states, as well as the fast-changing online environment, showed that the act was no longer adequate to regulate a highly transformed and expanded digital market. The Commission is currently drafting a legislative proposal, known as the DSA package, that seeks to update the existing horizontal rules. The package consists of two main pillars: 1. New set of rules, ranging from the freedom to provide digital services across the EU to the responsibility of online platforms, will establish a clearer and more modern framework harmonizing the role and obligations of digital services across the EU, as well as a more efficient governance s...
