Declawing, or onychectomy, is a major surgical procedure that removes an animal’s claws completely by amputating the tips of its toes. Due to the severity of the practice, it has been considered illegal in certain countries.
New Jersey currently has its own bill that would ban the declawing of cats that is making its way through the legislation process. The bill ( A3899) has been approved by the Assembly, but still needs to make its way through the Senate. There has not been a hearing scheduled as of yet for the approval of the bill.
